About Carpool One

Finding The Perfect Carpool Match

Firstly, try to find another Carpool One member planning a similar trip to yours by entering the suburb, state and/or postcode you're travelling from and to in the search page. You can also select the time, day or date you wish to leave or arrive (leave blank if flexible).

Advanced search options allow you to limit your search to people who:

  • have a vehicle available Vehicle  for the trip in case you don't
  • have been verified Verified  and are more trustworthy
  • don't mind smoking in the car if you want to smoke
  • don't mind travelling with pets if you're taking one
  • are members Group  of the same organisation

The search returns all trips that will genereate a fuel saving when combined with your trip, including necessary detours. The results are sorted by relevance to your start/end location and time requirements.

Click on a result to view the trip details, this will also provide a little information about the user who posted it. If you would like to contact the user, you can send him or her a message using the "Send Message" feature. You need to be a registered user and must be signed in in order to send messages.

Don't forget to include your phone number if you want the other party to be able to call you for faster communication.

Posting Your Trip

If you can't find a good enough carpool match in the search results, post your trip details in the database so others can find you.

Enter the locations you're travelling from and to specifying at least the suburb, state and/or the post code. You can also select the time, day or date you plan to leave or arrive (leave blank if flexible).

If you have a vehicle available for the trip, tick the checkbox and specify the type of vehicle. You should also outline how you would like to split the trip costs if you plan on doing so.

Additionally, you can let others know if you don't mind smoking in the car or travelling with pets, along with any other optional comments.

Verified Users

For safety reasons most users prefer to carpool only with verified users. Verification is a simple, voluntary process. A user becomes verified by completing the verification process, requiring a copy of the user's photo ID and proof of address. It is important to always travel responsibly and advise others of your plans even with verified users.

10 Carpooling Rules

The following is a summary of the 10 most important rules you need to agree to in order to use this server:

  1. Pick-up and drop-off locations and times are agreed in advance, as well as the maximum waiting time (5 minutes is standard).
  2. The driver (vehicle owner) announces the fixed trip cost for every passenger. The trip cost must be paid before the beginning of the trip.
  3. Smoking in the vehicle is not allowed unless all passengers agree.
  4. Transport of pets/animals is not allowed unless all passengers agree.
  5. Language or behaviour that could be offensive to some must be avoided.
  6. No unplanned stops will be made during the trip unless all passangers agree.
  7. The passengers with a possibility of having a contagious disease must warn others before the beginning of the trip.
  8. Passengers agree to present a proof of identity to each other if asked.
  9. Travelling with strangers can be potentially dangerous and all possible safety precautions must be made. Exchange full contact details, inform your family or friends of your trip plans, have your mobile handy, with police or a friend's number set in speed dial. If you're unsure, only travel with people you know.
  10. All passangers (including the driver) agree to these rules (including any amendments) before they arrange the carpool. Anyone in breach of these rules must leave the vehicle at the nearest safe stopping point (if the offender is the driver, he/she must stop and let passengers leave the vehicle immediately when asked).

Same Organisation Members

Although Carpool One is a free service available to the general public, it can also be implemented in your organisation's intranet/extranet environment. Such implementation won't cost a penny, takes virtually minutes, and results in a higher level of safety and improved comfort for users, who can then choose to search trips belonging only to their own organisation's members. Your organisation's name is never displayed to users outside the organisation.
